Burgess Hill Town Council and the Royal British Legion are jointly commemorating the 11/11/11 event in November, continuing their partnership approach. The ceremony has now been established on an annual basis, very much in line with the national trend.
Arrangements have been made for the Town Councillors, Royal British Legion Colour Party and Town Council staff to march from the Help Point to the War Memorial on Monday, 11 November commencing at 10.50 hours. This will be followed by a 2 minutes silence at 11.00 hours after which there will be a service to dedicate a new plaque which has been kindly donated by P&S Gallagher Funeral Directors, to remember all the animals that served, suffered and died alongside the British, Commonwealth and Allied forces in the wars and conflicts of the 20th century.
Residents and businesses are invited to join the ceremony at the War Memorial or to commemorate the occasion separately. In addition, motorists are being asked to respect the occasion and refrain from passing the War Memorial during the 2 minute silence.
A spokesman for the Royal British Legion said “we are pleased to be joining forces with the Town Council again this year to mark 11/11/11. Any ex-service men or women who would like to take part are very welcome to join us”.
Chris Thomas-Atkin, Town Mayor said, “I hope as many people as possible will be able to give 2 minutes silence in remembrance of those who gave everything”.
