A Bed of Roses at Arundel Castle

Green-fingered enthusiasts and families alike will not want to miss out on seeing Arundel Castle’s beautiful Rose Garden in full bloom this season.

The rose, England’s national flower, comes in a range of different varieties, around 20 of which can be seen in the grounds of the popular West Sussex attraction throughout June and July.

Arundel Castle’s Head Gardener, Martin Duncan, comments: “I was admiring some cut roses on sale recently and realised that they looked beautiful, but don’t really have the wonderful scent of old fashioned roses. As such, we have increased our rose collection throughout the gardens, focusing on the old English scented varieties.
“Roses are one of my favourite flowers and the beautiful sight and smells of this year’s stunning display certainly provides a tantalising treat for the senses.”

Traditional rose varieties that visitors will be able to see include the pink ‘Harlow Carr’ and ‘Adélaïde d’Orléans’, the beautifully scented ‘Mme Isaac Pereire’ with its unusual crimson cup shaped flowers, the tranquil white ‘Winchester Cathedral’ and the ‘Generous Gardener’ which, as its name suggests, has a spectacularly large, double head.
