Acclaimed filmmaker visits Brighton Film School for student masterclass

The acclaimed film and television comedy Director, Declan Lowney, visited Brighton Film School this past week to provide students there with a masterclass in direction and share his experiences of working in the film industry.

Lowney, who recently directed the award-winning box office hit, Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa (2013) and has the highly regarded Father Ted (1995-96) and Moone Boy (2012) to his credit, visited the specialist filmmaking school, located on Ditchling Road in central Brighton and spent the afternoon talking about directing comedy, finding your voice in film, coordinating stunts and how he got his big break in the industry.

After the masterclass, the students had the opportunity for a question and answer session and Declan Lowney decided to stay for the remainder of the day to help the Filmmaking HND students finish off their final year films – an amazing opportunity for filmmakers at the beginning of their career.

Rowan Holford, 1st year Filmmaking HND student said:”It was really encouraging for me to have someone with such status in the film industry share their experiences and give some really positive feedback on our work.”

Andrea Slater, industry professional and Course Leader said:”We were delighted to welcome Declan to Brighton Film School. It is a fantastic and unique opportunity for young people studying filmmaking at degree level to get to speak and network with an established filmmaker of his calibre and standing.”
