As a Brit, I hope my American Friends will forgive my poking my nose into their affairs but the Gun Control debate currently raging across the Atlantic is an interesting one – as is the future of a nation whose fortunes will have a bearing to one degree or another on the rest of the planet.

As he launched a preliminary salvo designed to soften up public opinion for the introduction into the UK of genetically modified (GM) food, the Environment Minister, Owen Patterson, recently dismissed the concerns of myriad reputable agencies and groups as “humbug.”

This was a classic case of the pot calling the kettle black and remarkably shallow even for a government minister.

Far from me speaking ill of the governing body of persons in charge of the Eastbourne District General Hospital administration in regard to making this hospital and the Conquest in Hastings dysfunctional in the New Year is beyond any comprehension.
