The winner of the 2005 Elvis Festival in Collingwood, Canada has spent the past ten years building his career to now be considered among the elite in the tribute world with a worldwide concert schedule to match. Lee Memphis King will perform as his idol in Worthing on July 8.
After winning the renowned Elvis festival at Collingwood Lee joined his live band to create two two-hour one-man shows One Night with Elvis and Elvis on Tour which have gone from strength to strength and been performed across Europe.
For the 30th anniversary of Presley’s death, Lee appeared in the BBC’s World’s Greatest Elvis and was the UK’s most successful participant. He was praised by Joe Esposito, a lifelong friend, companion and employee of Elvis’ who said: “When I closed my eyes I could hear Elvis - he did a great job - it was awesome”.
Lee Memphis King has been obsessive about Elvis Presley and his music since his early childhood and began imitating his voice at six years old. He combines vocal impressions and emotional interpretations to recreate the effect of both younger Elvis Presley and the mature film star. In addition to vocals, he completes the illusion that Elvis is on stage with genuine outfits made in the USA by costume-makers who use original Elvis designs.
Lee narrates the show in his natural speaking voice and combines humour and anecdotes between his Elvis performances which include songs from the 50s rock‘n’roll years from Blue Suede Shoes to Hound Dog, the Las Vegas Years and the ‘68 Comeback Special which featured songs such as Jailhouse Rock and Heartbreak Hotel.
