The Weald & Downland Living Museum is participating in the National Museums at Night event in May, with two evening promenades with fireside stories.
On Friday 19 and Saturday 20 May, the Weald & Downland Living Museum at Singleton, near Chichester, will open its doors from 8.45pm for pre-booked visitors to experience its atmospheric Museum at Night.
These night tours offer a truly out of the ordinary experience – you will be guided by lamplight to six different spaces around the Museum, to hear a series of short night-time stories. Some will be amusing, some mysterious and some downright odd. Some are definitely not the stuff to ensure sweet dreams. Each story has a historical root, as truth is far stranger than fiction. Not for the faint of heart.
• A mysterious, musical interlude around an open fire
• Tales of smuggling and an account of a murder and the trial of the supposed suspects
• A Dickensian story told in a Victorian cottage
At the end of the evening, participants are invited gather around an open fire for a calming spiced warm drink of an alcoholic or non-alcoholic variety, plus a biscuit.

The Museum will open its doors from 8.45pm until 11.00pm on Friday 19 and Saturday 20 May for pre-booked visitors. The event is aimed at adults (16 years and over). Tickets are limited and pre-booking is essential. Tickets are £25 each and can be purchased in the Museum shop or online via its website: www.wealddown.co.uk/shop. Guests should arrive at 8.45pm and meet at the Museum shop and ticket office for a prompt 9.00pm start. Walks will last approximately 2 hours. Please note that there is limited seating in the Museum’s historic houses and the evening will involve walking on uneven surfaces.
