The GG Column Local Issues

I don’t like to involve myself in politics, because other people’s opinions may differ from mine which is feasible.  Not many people agree with each other even if they belong to the same political party.

What I am really trying to convey is that Eastbourne’s needs are far greater than a stretch of road between Polegate and Lewes and the Tory  Member of Parliament hopeful is not in favour of doing the right thing, but then again Leopards never change their spots and it has been noted or noticed that the wrong choice to represent this district could be the final nail in the coffin for the Eastbourne people.

The roads in Eastbourne are in an atrocious condition and if the ESCC had looked after them from the beginning, we would not be in this predicament now.  With financial costs of patch repair work that has been the ESCC approach to the situation has done nothing to improve the quality of road surfaces.  Most road accidents are caused by roads with holes in; some roads look and feel like a battlefield.

To worry about a road connection between Polegate and Lewes and subsequently to London seems to me going the long way round and the implication could be justifiably sinister in that they would have to demolish a few houses to make way for another major road which we don’t need.  This will cost millions of pounds to do, and for example  the road being built between Hasting and Bexhill, ruining the countryside and the habitat of many birds and animals and all for ONE HUNDRED MILLION POUNDS OF TAX PAYER’S MONEY.   Perhaps they have forgotten about the A22 which seems to be a more direct route to LONDON.

This same alleged political hopeful has an agenda to raise the COUNCIL TAX.  Hasn’t obviously heard of the RECESSION that is plaguing our existence or is it just a personal vendetta or a whimsical idea thought of while waking up with a bad taste in the mouth thinking of the PET PROJECT that was introduced by this person and having read the proposal myself, I can understand why it was rejected.

CONSERVATION ROAD

Cornfield Road is a Victorian and Edwardian Conservation Area.  Can it be both?  Perhaps the Council are covering all the options and if proven it is not Victorian they can always fall back on the Edwardian era.

As a writer of a letter to the local paper has pointed out, I don’t think that Parking Meters are part of any Conservation area, if so, it will be the first in the history for Eastbourne.  Then there is the matter of the bus route that has just been approved by the ESCC.  If this road is a conservation area it needs to be paved over and no traffic at all.

Again I think the Council are making up all these ideas to try and prove  their decision that a shop in that road can’t have a metal shutter to protect their business.  Obviously we don’t pay them enough for them to act on our behalf and serve the Eastbourne people as they should do.

Up in the Air

I am all in favour of seeing “The Red Arrows” but does it have to be for four days, with finances being what they are, very tight as pointed out by many people.  Two days would be sufficient.  The other money that isn’t spent can go to ESCC so they can repair the roads properly.

NHS – WORRYING

Can NHS afford to purchase a VOLVO V60 D6 plug in Hybrid vehicle as part of their ambulance fleet which can cost between £20, 425 and £38,100.00 when we hear that the NHS have to save TWO HUNDRED MILLION POUNDS over the next FIVE YEARS according to

The Chief Executive of East Sussex Health Care NHS Trust which runs the DGH.  Apparently we are listed as one of the eleven counties IN DIRE FINANCIAL STRAITS.

According to another report that has come to the fore:  we now have to fill in a three part form allowing other factors to know about our personal details if we require any service from EASTBOURNE DISTRICT GENERAL HOSPITAL.  So, for instance if you require a scan you need to be part of this scheme.  Who’s cock-a-mania idea was this?  A hospital is supposed to serve the community, not put barriers in place and make it impossible to get the right, and sometimes urgent treatment without having a threatening piece of paper thrust under your nose.  IF YOU WANT TREATMENT HERE – SIGN THE FORM!

Did we win the war – I repeat I have my doubts!
