Mid Sussex District Council processes benefits claims faster than all but three other local authorities in the UK, according to figures from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).

The council took an average of just 12 days to process claims for Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit against the national average of 25 days.

This is the fourth best performance in the UK, behind only Brentwood Borough Council, Tendring District Council and Sedgemoor District Council.

Tim Delany, Head of Revenues and Benefits, said: “This is fantasic news and testament to the hard work of all of our staff.

“We have worked hard to improve the speed at which we turn residents’ requests around, whether they are new claimants or notifying us of a change in their circumstances.”
