New Deputy Lieutenants appointed in East Sussex

It was announced today that four new Deputy Lieutenants have been appointed for the County of East Sussex. They will assist the Lord Lieutenant, Peter Field, in the execution of his duties in the County on behalf of HM The Queen. Those appointed are:

Andrew BLACKMAN
Andrew lives in Fairlight, Hastings and is married to Richard.
His background is in the Arts. Having previously worked with supporters’ groups at the National Gallery and Dulwich Picture Gallery he has used his experience locally to assist the Jerwood Gallery in Hastings and the Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition. He is a trustee of the Peasmarsh Chamber Music Festival.

Andrew is chairman of the Friends of Hastings Country Park Nature Reserve. He has been very involved with St Michael’s Hospice and with the current appeal at the Conquest Hospital for a new scanner and is an ambassador for Sussex Community Foundation.

Timothy Michael (Tim) COBB
Tim lives in Eastbourne with his wife Susan and their three sons.
Tim is a public relations professional having set up a public relations company in 1995 which now employs 22 in Eastbourne and Brighton. He is very involved with the Sussex business community. Currently he is President of the Eastbourne Chamber of Commerce and he has established networking clubs in Brighton, Gatwick, Tunbridge Wells and Eastbourne to encourage support for local suppliers and to offer support for local charities where he uses his PR/media skills to help the local community whenever he can.

Sarah Kowitz
Sarah lives in Fairlight, Hasting with David her husband and her two children.
Sarah is well known locally for her support right across the local community. In particular for her fund raising for voluntary and charity groups and for her work with education, the visual arts and the support of music performance in Hastings. She is an active Board member of Sussex’s newest art museum, the Jerwood and has commissioned sculpture in supportof the town.

Christopher Henry Charles Whittick
Christopher lives in Lewes.
He is the County Archivist of East Sussex and has served with the County Council for 40 years. He is chairman of the Sussex Historic Churches Trust, a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society, the Society of Antiquities and the Artworkers Guild. He regularly teaches palaeography and local history at the Universities of Sussex, London, Oxford, Cambridge and Keele, and has recently completed his catalogue of the Battle Abbey archive at the Huntington Library in Pasadena, California.

The Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex Peter Field said “I am delighted that Andrew, Tim, Sarah and Christopher have been appointed. All of them have played, and continue to play an important part in the life of our local community and I know their considerable skills and experience will be extremely useful in supporting me in the execution of my duties.”
