American Express, the largest–private sector employer in Brighton and Hove, is celebrating five years as the major supporter of the Stonewall Equality Walk.
A team of 100 American Express employees will join those taking part in the annual 10k walk on 1 May 2011, which is being hosted by Coronation Street actor Charlie Condou, Lip Service actor and musician Heather Peace and fresh from a two-year run in hit West End show Avenue Q, performer Daniel Boys.
Last year’s event raised a record-breaking £63,000 for the charity. To date, before volunteers’ feet have taken their first steps along the course around Brighton, American Express employees have already raised more than £2,000. Money raised from this year’s walk will support the distribution of Stonewall’s Celebrating Difference primary school teacher training pack.
Pascal Guignard, Vice President at American Express comments: “We are immensely proud of our diverse employee community at American Express and encourage people from all backgrounds, talents and perspectives to thrive. We are delighted to be celebrating a fifth year of support for the Stonewall Equality Walk and the invaluable work the charity undertakes for the greater benefit of the community.”
Laura Doughty, Deputy Chief Executive at Stonewall, added: “American Express’ continued support is a reflection of the company’s commitment to both the City of Brighton & Hove and LGBT issues. The Equality Walk is a vital fundraising event that enables Stonewall to make a difference to the lives of young lesbian, gay and bisexual people living in Sussex and around Britain.”
The walk starts at 2pm from Brighton Pavilion and those wishing to join in can register at www.equalitywalk.org.uk. All participants will receive a goodie bag on the day which includes details of 30 special hotel, dining and drinks offers negotiated by American Express with local businesses.
