The second Greater Haywards Heath Bike Ride will be held on Sunday 1st April 2012, following the huge success of the 2011 event which, to date, has raised nearly £11,000 for charity.
Organised by HHDBA (the Haywards Heath & District Business Association), backed by Mid Sussex District Council, Haywards Heath Town Council and The Orchards Shopping Centre, the event attracted 647 riders, creating a real community event bringing people together and putting the town ‘on the map’.
St Peter and St James Hospice, Help for Heroes and the Friends of the Yews are set to benefit by £1,000 each from the Organisers, while many other charities were supported by team sponsorships – St Catherine’s Hospice in Crawley, CCHF All About Kids, Paws and Claws, Cats Protection, Chailey Heritage, The Redwood Centre, Kangaroos, the local Multiple Sclerosis Club and Cancer Research to name but a few. In all, the organisers reckon that some £11,000 has been raised for charity, with more coming in.
“It really was a great day and we’re all looking forward to next year already,” says Ruth de Mierre. “So we hope all our riders will put it in their diaries and, of course, we hope that many more will join us for what we’re sure will be just as much fun for the whole community – especially as it’s April Fools Day!”
