Pound Hill Junior School and Dorset House School battled it out in a tense tie-break for first place in West Sussex County Council’s Road Safety and TravelWise Quiz final.
It was the first tie-break in the quiz’s 21 year history.
Dorset House School in Pulborough took home the prestigious Pemberton Shield and £30 worth of Evans Cycles vouchers for each pupil.
Pound Hill Junior School in Crawley was awarded a shield and £20 worth of Evans Cycles vouchers.
Leechpool Primary School in Horsham and Lindfield Primary School in Haywards Heath won joint third place, each getting a shield and £10 worth of vouchers.
Jessie Younghusband School in Chichester was winner of hi-vis jackets awarded by the Sussex Safer Roads Partnership.
Caitlin Garside, aged 10, from Slindon CE Primary School in Arundel also won a bicycle courtesy of Evans Cycles.
Lionel Barnard, Deputy Leader of West Sussex County Council with responsibility for Highways and Transport, said: “Congratulations to all the winners in this year’s quiz.
“It is such a great achievement and shows just how smart our students are when it comes to road safety and travelling around in environmentally friendly ways.”
Twenty schools and 120 students took part in the finals, held at Chichester Festival Theatre, answering questions in four rounds.
