TSN is (very) pleased to report that two teams from St Anthony's School, Chichester, took first and second place in the annual Consumer Challenge Quiz, which is held by Trading Standards Services in Sussex.
Ten teams from six special schools across East and West Sussex and Brighton and Hove took part in the challenge. They had to compete in five rounds of questions on the following topics:
• Who can help?
• Streetwise shopper.
• Travelling safely.
• Colours.
• Labels, signs and symbols.
Graeme MacPherson, Head of West Sussex County Council Trading Standards Service, said: “The competition is designed to compliment the pupils’ schoolwork and raise awareness of consumer issues while at the same time giving them a fun day out.
“We also direct them to www.wiseguys.org.uk, which provides a teaching resource designed by Trading Standards and aimed at supporting parts of the curriculum in special schools.”
St Anthony's star performer of the day was Danielle Kitchener from the winning team.
The school now intends to take the winning team to compete in the national final, which will take place at the Trading Standards' Institute Conference in Bournemouth in June.
Margaret Whitehead, Deputy County Council Cabinet Member for Public Protection, said: “Scooping this double at the Consumer Challenge Quiz – on top of last year’s triumph – was a magnificent effort by St Anthony’s.
“We wish them every success when they represent our county in Bournemouth.”
