Brighton app developer Aimer Media has secured its first top slot on the iTunes app store with its best-selling Para Fitness App. The new app reached number one in the iTunes' iPad health and fitness chart in March 2011. The iPhone version reached number two.

The Para Fitness App (£1.79 / $2.99 in the iTunes store) features a series of tailored workout programmes designed by a former head of Para recruitment and training Major Sam McGrath. With a clever assessment tool, users get to select a programme level that is right for them – recruit, soldier or Para. They can then monitor and record their progress during a daily eight-week programme moving up to the next level when they are ready.

The reviewer in The Sun – where the Para Fitness App was rated App of the Week – described it as: ""The cheapest personal trainer you'll ever have. Probably the best too!"

MD of Aimer Media Adrian Driscoll said: "We knew this body fitness app had great potential. It's a really thorough exercise app with plenty of additional tips and advice, all delivered in a simple way to get people to pick it up and have a go. As Sam says, getting your trainers on is the hardest part of getting fit. But with one of the Para's finest on your side, what more motivation could you need to get up and out there?"

Sam McGrath' book, The Para Fitness Guide from Osprey Publishing, is also a best-seller and came out in January this year.
