Relive the Victorian Music Hall Age in Worthing

Jan Hunt, star of BBC’s The Good Old Days, will lead the cast of The Magnificent Music Hall when the show appears at the Pavilion Theatre in Worthing on April 13th.

Jan and her Paper Moon Theatre Company invite audiences to step back in time to the glamorous heyday of traditional Victorian Music Hall. Taking inspiration from the traditions of the 1890s, stars of BBC’s The Good Old Days create an afternoon of song, dance, magic and comedy portraying the golden era of Music Hall. Using colourful costumes, elaborate sets and audience participation including traditional song sheets, the nostalgic combination of music and jokes is revived.

The Magnificent Music Hall is a new version of the original stage production of The Good Old Days which started in 1988, paying homage to the famous TV show of the same name. The BBC’s broadcasts were seen by millions of viewers worldwide between 1953 and 1983 and featured over 2,000 artistes of the time who performed as famous figures from the Victorian and Edwardian eras. During the run they were watched by a live audience totalling over 60,000, who all wore traditional costumes.

All members of The Paper Moon Theatre Company starred in TV’s The Good Old Days. Jan featured in fifteen of the episodes and was known for her role in Crackerjack during the 1970s. She is an expert in the history of Music Hall specifically the life of Marie Lloyd. Johnny Dennis will take the role of MC in the live show, which was originally held by Leonard Sachs.

Producer and actress Jan Hunt says: “Audiences in Amsterdam, Brussels, Frankfurt, the Philippines, the Middle East, the United States and Canada have all joined in with the songs you love to sing and the jokes you love to hear, now it’s your turn.”

The Magnificent Music Hall appears at the Pavilion Theatre, Marine Parade, Worthing. BN11 3PX on Sunday April 13th at 3.00pm. Tickets – £14.50, concessions £2 off, Friends of Worthing Theatres £11 – can be purchased from the box office on 01903 206 206 or online at www.worthingtheatres.co.uk
