The award-winning Towner is extending its Café Projects exhibitions this week with the addition of a set of Robert Tavener prints from Emma Mason British Prints in Eastbourne.
This week Towner Café welcomes the arrival of a group of architecture themed prints to browse and buy, by the renowned Eastbourne printmaker and illustrator Tavener to tie in with Towner’s contemporary building.
The prints are being added to Café Projects, a series of selling exhibitions that support East Sussex artists and businesses, to coincide with the Tavener ‘Celebrating a lifetime of printmaking’ exhibition, which is on now at Emma Mason British Prints Gallery.
Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism and Leisure, Cllr Neil Stanley said “Launched only this autumn, Café Projects has already been a popular addition to Towner and an excellent platform to showcase the wealth of talent on our doorstep. Kate Graham’s photos, which explore a familiar but curious world, including Eastbourne landmarks like the Pier, were a great way for us to launch the exhibition and we are very excited to add a fantastic series of prints by Robert Tavener this week. With the Emma Mason Gallery showing even more of Tavener’s works, I’d encourage everyone to take a look at the free exhibitions on now at Towner and Emma Mason.”
This autumn the Emma Mason British Prints is also celebrating the publication of their book written by Emma and Richard Mason on Tavener’s life and work, titled ‘Oh Mr Tavener I wish I had the original!”
Tavener gifted a large selection of his work to the Towner collection in 1998,and Emma Mason, who represents the artist’s estate, and Towner, are joining forces to promote the work of the late Eastbourne artist who was Head of Printmaking at Eastbourne College of Art and Design and also has work held in the Victoria and Albert Museum Collection.
Matthew Rowe, Artistic Director of Towner, said “We are delighted to be working with Emma Mason British Prints on this display of the work of Eastbourne printmaker and illustrator Robert Tavener that provides the second in our new series of Café Projects at Towner. All work is for sale and the architectural theme really complements Towner’s contemporary architecture and makes one consider how this prolific printmaker would have depicted Towner, Eastbourne’s award winning new kid on the block!”
The Tavener prints will be available to view and buy from Towner Café until 12 December. For more information on Café Projects call 01323 434670 and to find out more about the Tavener exhibition at the Emma Mason British Prints on until 11 December, go to www.emmamason.co.uk or call 01323 727545.
