Versatility and Diversification – The route to a successful business.

sharon-mapelyBeing clear about what sets you apart from your competitors, having a unique selling point and getting your brand right are extremely important when you set up a new business, however I also believe that versatility and diversification are key to its success.

I always knew the definition of my brand would be to help individuals and other small/medium enterprises to develop and thrive. My clients could expect to benefit from the knowledge and expertise I shared with them. I wanted my business to be associated with professionalism, reliability, quality and with going that extra mile.

Four years on, as my client base continues to grow, I am reaping the benefits of having been consistent with my mission. That said, I truly believe that an open mind and being prepared to up-skill and diversify have also played a huge part in business growth.

Fundamentally my core business is administration and marketing, however I like to think that the ongoing introduction of new services, relating to the current climate and the needs of prospective clients, continue to differentiate me from my competitors. For example, my Employability Services, including CV Writing, Online Job Applications and Interview Preparation are proving to be very popular with first time job seekers and those returning to work.

Sir Richard Branson continuously looks for new opportunities and openings in the market place to diversify his interests. Whilst the size of his operation is very different from most, the principal of diversification is the same for all of us and after all, “Great oaks from little acorns grow”!
