10 Steps Towards Beautiful Skin

Our Aesthetics & Skincare Expert, Amish Patel, Founder of the South-East’s Award-Winning Clinic, Intrigue Cosmetic Clinic, shares ten steps towards beautiful skin this summer.

  • Cleanse your skin twice a day. Make sure you cleanse your skin twice a day to remove all the dirt, grime and sweat that builds up on your skin and can lead to irritation and spot outbreaks. Don’t go overboard by choosing a harsh cleanser. You still need to retain those natural oils in your skin.
  • Moisturise your skin. Look into replacing your moisturiser cream with a serum. Serums are lightweight, absorb quickly and are very hydrating. Whereas cream moisturisers can ‘sit’ on the skin during hot weather, serums are absorbed much more effectively, even in hot weather.
  • Always wear a high sun factor at all times and keep your face covered. Sun damage is high on the list of being one of the most ageing lifestyle factors and is preventative.

  • Ideally, go make-up free as much as possible during the summer months or choose lightweight tinted moisturisers instead of foundation.
  • Drink plenty of water. Drinking water will keep your summer skin hydrated and looking plump and refreshed.
  • Go alcohol-free for six weeks. If you enjoy a regular tipple, cut it out for six weeks and see the difference in your skin.
  • Sugar is another ageing enemy so cut down on your sugar intake. Watch out for hidden sugars in processed foods and replace your tea sugar with raw honey or coconut sugar.

  • Get exercising. Exercise is excellent for your skin, body and mind. Exercise gets the heart pumping and improves blood circulation, which can help deliver nutrients and oxygen to the skin. This supports collagen production and encourages new skin cell formation, which will give your skin a gorgeous glow. Exercise will also help you sleep, which again is a massive benefit to beautiful skin!
  • Exfoliate your face two-three times a week or less, dependent on your skin sensitivity and type. By exfoliating your skin, you remove dead skin cells, which can clog up your pores and create spot outbreaks.
  • Be gentle with your skin when washing or applying creams. Pat your face dry after washing and apply your cream by putting a small amount on the back of your hand, dotting it around the face with your fingertips and gently massaging it. Be particularly careful around the delicate eye area. Don’t forget to moisturise your neck by putting your moisturiser in both palms and applying it to your neck with long strokes to finish.

Some great tips here! Thank you! You mention cleansing your face twice a day, but would you recommend double cleansing each time too or is this not necessary?
