Calling All Fringe Virgins For 2016

If you have never dipped your toe in the Fringe waters as a performer, now is your chance to take part in England’s largest arts festival.

A brand new bursary has launched to help aspiring Brighton Fringe performers appear at the festival for the first time. Encore Insure is offering new participants the chance to apply for the encoreinsure.com Brighton Fringe First Bursary Scheme. This bursary is designed to reflect their support of Brighton Fringe shows and the creative zeal of new performers to produce fantastic work on a limited budget.

Running for four weeks from 6 May – 5 June 2016, Brighton Fringe attracts performers from all over the world. To showcase a performance during the 10th year of the Fringe, first time participants are invited to apply now for a chance to win one of five free registrations. The deadline for the encoreinsure.com Brighton Fringe First Bursary Scheme is 5pm on Monday 30th November 2015.

Whilst this bursary is available only to first-time participants, seasoned Brighton Fringe participants can benefit from a number of funding opportunities. Artists looking forward to taking part in this year’s festival can save up to £30 on registration fees by taking advantage of the Early Bird discount when registering before 14 December.

Brighton Fringe has hooked up with O2 Think Big to become an official Youth Partner. All participants aged 13-25 are able to apply for a Think Big fund to contribute to an event or project. Successful applications will receive funding of £300 toward the cost of putting on a show in the Fringe. Deadline is 11 November 2015.

In addition, Brighton Fringe is offering The Pebble Trust Brighton Fringe Awards for the sixth year running. The Pebble Trust is a Brighton-based charity which supports local causes and individuals. This year’s award will go to three young performers wishing to put on an event of any kind during the Fringe. Previous winners include world champion tap dancer, Jamie Spall who says, ‘The Pebble Trust pushes people to do extraordinary things. By funding individuals involved in Brighton Fringe performances, they provide an incredible support system for new artists.’ This year’s winners will receive a bursary of £300 plus mentoring from professional artists. The closing date for applications is Monday 30th November 2015.

And finally, the Irene Mensah Artist Bursary is available to community artists based in Brighton & Hove who are participating in Brighton Fringe 2016. The deadline for this bursary is 1 December 2015.

Deadlines are fast approaching for this year’s awards and bursaries. For more information about applying visit the Brighton Fringe website http://www.brightonfringe.org/funding.
