Chapter 15 Memories

The author’s warning: This chapter’s content has an explicit love scene.

Eric jogged in those early days first thing every morning and he turned round while still running and collided with her coming the other way. They both collapsed in a heap on a grassy verge.  Eric could not apologise enough, he should have looked where he was going.  She was shaken, but unhurt.  He got up first and then helped her to her feet and it was then that she mentioned she was not looking where she was going either because she felt that someone was following her and it had worried her so much she was hoping she would be able to spot her pursuer.

Eric couldn’t take his eyes off of her, she was a beautiful brunette with very blue eyes. In the collision however, she had dislodged one contact lens and was crawling on all fours and she told Eric to stand still, so that he would not step on her last remaining lens.   She was going to the Opticians later that day for an eye test and renew her prescription for more contact lenses and glasses.  Eric wondered whether she would consider going on a date and she said ‘Yes.’ as his foot stamped down on her lens.

‘Oh well!’  Jenny exclaime, ‘My glasses are in the car’s glove compartment. I will still be able to drive home.  Jenny got into her car and felt in the glove space, but no glasses. ‘Oh damn! No glasses, I’m sure I put them in there, must have left them at home.’

Eric said he would drive her back home.  Jenny gave Eric her car keys and as he opened the door for Jenny to get into the car on the passenger side, he saw something glinting in the sunlight.  He shut the car door and went to where he saw the reflection.  They were Jenny’s spectacles, they were mangled and both lenses in pieces.  Eric straightened and looked around towards the park and scanned round the parking area. Nothing suspicious met his gaze.  He walked back to the car and showed Jenny what he had found.  Jenny uttered. ’How could anyone get into my car, it was locked and has an alarm.’  Then Eric noticed that one of the back windows was shattered, but there were no shards of glass to be found anywhere.  Eric thought it might be some kids, but came to the conclusion that this was a professional break-in.  The radio was still in its place and nothing had been stolen.  Her handbag was in the boot of the car and that had not been touched at all at first glance that is, until Eric touched her house keys. He felt the rubbery stickiness of something to make an impression and suggested to Jenny that she should telephone a locksmith as soon as they got to her house and have all the locks changed.  Eric decided to call the police and when they eventually came he related the events. On their advice they said it would be advisable for him to stay with her until all the jobs had been done. He telephoned work and explained the reason for his absence and decided to be with Jenny for as long as it took.   Someone from the office came round and collected his car keys from him because his car was still in the parking area adjacent to the park.  He realised that he was still in his jogging gear and his clothes were in his car.  Eric came back to reality, remembering all of this now. When the police called and arrested him for murder he couldn’t for the life of him remember any of those things, funny how the memory plays tricks.  He goes back into his dream world and remembers his first proper date with Jenny. His first date with Jenny was on the 6th January 1982. It was a few days after their collision in the park.  It was a lunch time date – he had taken her to a swish Italian restaurant.  Jenny wanted it to be that way because she had other ideas for the evening, apart from anything else she felt that she was still being watched. To have someone calling in the evening would make her feel safer.  That special moment in your life you always remember as long as you live.  He often reminisce in his mind how the evening turned into a night of passion.  Whether it was planned by him or Jenny he was not sure.  Jenny cooked an amazing meal which was devoured completely and they rested afterwards with coffee on her sofa in front of a blazing fire.  Jenny owned a two bed roomed flat, it was well appointed, she never went in for sophistication in gadgetry. No electric fires for her, it had to be a coal fire and the old fashioned homely look. It was situated on the first floor and had its own front door from the road.  The flats were well designed so that everybody had their own access point.  It was an old building built in  the 1800’s for one family. It was enormous – you would have to be a very well off and influential person to have owned such a magnificent piece of property as this, even in those days.   The building had been standing derelict for some time until a company came along and modernised the outer shell and divided it into five large flats.  Each flat had a shower room, a bathroom, separate toilet, study and two very large bedrooms as well as the kitchen/dining room and a very large lounge.  The trouble was there no garages, although a piece of land had been purchased by each flat owner combining their resources and the same business company were still building them.  The car owners had to be content with parking in the road.
Jenny sipped her coffee reflecting how she had met Eric and was hopeful for an alliance between them.  Eric was thinking the same thoughts.  They both spoke at the same time…’Its funny how we…….’  ‘Sorry!’ said Eric said ‘You first.’ Jenny said: ‘I was just thinking how we met, both running towards each other, both of us looking the other way for different reasons, must be fate, I suppose.’  ‘To be honest with you Jenny, I can’t remember why I turned round that morning. I’ve never had done that before and as you say it must have been fate.’  Jenny said ‘If you finished your coffee I’ll take your mug.’  Jenny took his mug and disappeared into the kitchen placed her own and his in the dish washer closed the lid and off it rumbled.
Jenny said ‘If you want to smoke you have my permission.’

‘I don’t!’ said Eric.

Jenny sat down on the settee beside Eric and they both stared at the fire. Eric was fascinated by the dancing flames until he perceived some movement as Jenny leant towards Eric and said, ‘Eric, kiss me!’  He turned and cupping her face in his hands kissed her with such passion that she fell back against the cushion arm of the settee. He fell off the edge of the settee and they both laughed. Eric lay looking up at her as she disrobed. The tantalising perfume wafted as she removed her blouse and slipped out of her skirt. Eric was mesmerized by her actions, she lowered herself on top of him and began to undo the buckle of his trousers and then very slowly zipped open the front and pulled them down beyond his feet, it was done in slow motion. He took off his T-shirt while she removed her bra and panties. She lay on top of him guiding his hands to where she wanted them to go. She kissed him, her mouth wide open inviting his tongue to probe inside.  He was riding on the crest of the wave.  She lowered his underpants and felt the warmth of deep penetration as he gathered momentum. He placed both hands on her breasts, squeezing and caressing her.  She rode him on her knees which were placed each side of his thighs as she moved backwards and forwards in a gentle rocking movement. She gasped and fell on him in a heap.

‘We’ll have to get married now’ said Eric.  Seven months later they were.  Eric remembered every tiny detail of their courtship, it was always exciting.  They laughed a lot, had fun and their love-making was always something to remember.
