Deaf and Hard of Hearing people, across East Sussex, are living in isolation, struggle to be understood, struggle for access to information daily, in a world where people do not understand what is it like to be deaf or hard of hearing. This often can lead to depression, mental illness and isolation with no peers to talk to.
As part of our Big Lottery Fund, Community Connect Project, DeafCOG wanted to connect in all are-as of Brighton & Hove and East Sussex. Connecting people is what our project is all about, to improve Deaf people’s life opportunities, health and well-being. Our aim is to reduce the lack of access that services are providing for deaf people.

Help our work, raise awareness of the challenges Deaf people face both nationally and in a local context, get fit, socialise, all while raising money to support the valuable work we do.
There are more than 11 million people in the UK with some form of hearing loss, or one in six of the population. By 2035, it is estimated that there will be 15.6 million people with hearing loss in the UK – that’s one in five. More than 900,000 people in the UK are severely or profoundly deaf.
