Eastbourne Mother Celebrates 1st Anniversary of Cleaning Business

A mother from Eastbourne is celebrating success twelve months after starting a cleaning business in the town.

Jules Anderson, who lives in the Old Town with her three children started The Local Cleaners TLC in October 2012 and since then, the company has gone from strength to strength, employing 4 other staff members.

Jules stepped out of her previous radio broadcasting role so she could spend more time with her children.

The 38 year old admits that starting a business in a difficult economic climate was a gamble although insists there is a real demand for cleaners due to the busy lives of others.

“Many of our clients are simply too busy and don’t want to do housework at the weekend when they’ve been working so hard all week.”

The Local Cleaners TLC predominantly looks after domestic cleaning although they’ve been working hand in hand with Eastbourne Holiday Cottages all summer looking after luxury cottages for the tourist trade.

The former broadcaster, who can still occasionally be heard reading the traffic and travel on BBC Sussex said, “We also work for letting agents and building surveyors, which has meant stepping up a gear and adapting to different cleaning techniques.”

She said, “I started the company on my own and did all of the cleaning by myself but as the demand came in I had to hire staff to help me.”

Jules started her radio broadcasting career as a volunteer at Sovereign Radio in Hailsham in 1998, while she worked as a cleaner at the East Sussex County Council offices in Lewes in the evening so she had an income.

She went on to say, “Anyone can do what I’ve done.  I started working for nothing in radio and ended up with a hugely successful broadcasting career working for the likes of Southern FM, Sky News and the BBC.  Yes, I worked hard, but I’ve never forgotten how cleaning the council offices in Lewes got me through in the beginning.”

She continued, “12 months of success has meant I can still broadcast as well as run a cleaning operation in Eastbourne and Lewes, with plans for TLC to eventually service homes and businesses in Brighton.  I wouldn’t say I’m lucky as I believe you make your own luck, but anyone can do what I’ve done with a bit of hard work along the way!”

Jules has followers from all over the world who read her cleaning blog. For more information about The Local Cleaners TLC visit www.thelocalcleaners.net
