EASTBOURNE PIER

It was one of my stay at home days not realising the dramatic situation that was developing along the Sea Front. Eastbourne Pier was ablaze. This is the second time that Eastbourne Pier has been on fire. Way back in 1970 somebody set light to the theatre. Praise must be given to the many Fire fighters who constantly put their lives on the line on a day to day basis. Eighty firemen were called to try and save the pier this time from total destruction. They succeeded with fortitude in saving two thirds of the 144 year old iconic structure. Those visitors and residents who were on Eastbourne Pier at the time were brought safely from the inferno. The RNLI were deployed and from the sea were hosing down parts of the structure behind the blazing building and four fire fighters were standing in the water hosing down the stilts making sure that the fire did not travel in that direction. What made things worse was the fact that an East to West crosswind was playing havoc with water spray and hose pipes had to be pointed at a different angle. At one point the Fire Fighters had to pump sea water into their tanks as their water supply had diminished because of the length of time that had passed to bring the fire under control.

A fire crew team were working from the road making sure that the wind would not make the flames leap across to hotels and other buildings along the seafront. Fire crews worked all night dampening down hot spots.

Without their courage, strength and heroic action, this could have been another fire of London.

PATHETIC HACKERS

It is the same old story: “My wife and I while on holidaying in a Bangkok Hotel had all our money, jewellery and passports stolen and as you are a friend I thought you would be able to help us out by sending us enough money to get back to England.” Think on brother, if I had a pound for every fictional sob story I have received, I’d be a rich man. Recently I received an email from a friend and his wife, well to be exact on the 15th July 2014 claiming just that, but the funny thing about it, the person you would be hackers had hacked was singing on a Bandstand at a seaside resort the very day you so cleverly invaded his computer. No imagination or thought had gone into the process of this so-called hacker, so pathetic. I’ll give him nothing out of ten for effort.

It is not saying much about the hotel’s security which I understand is usually a five star service and wouldn’t allow this to happen in the first place as your key is a card which you hand in at reception for safety and security reasons also every country has a British Embassy to which you should go along and they will give enough money to get you home.

Having worked in the Passport Office in London has given me first hand knowledge of people claiming to be stranded and if so, they would have to forfeit their passports and were issued with a visa. When they paid their outstanding amount of money, they would receive back their passports. You can’t knock the system and if you are hacking from Chelmsford in England you haven’t a dog’s chance in getting money from other people to feed your drug or alcohol habit.

Experts who are experimenting with computers’ security and have come up with several programmes that are capable of tracing hackers. Once installed if you hack that person, be prepared to accept the consequences.

People like you, who probably have a decree in computer know-how should put your talents to something worthwhile and not try to fleece other people out of their hard earned money. The world doesn’t owe you a living, you need to earn it yourselves.

NEW FACES, NEW PLACES!

Our current top man has had a reshuffle of Cabinet Staff and in some cases has upset the proverbial “Apple Cart”. Whether it is another ploy to gain more votes one can only assume the answer to be positive. He wants the perfect “A” Team where there will be no squabbles and everybody is squeaky clean with no hidden skeletons or agendas in their cupboards, excepting of course, the possibility that there is already dust in the Cabinet Room they have been unable to sweep under the carpet?

Having money for elections does help with the finances, but it is not money that wins elections, it is good deeds. Persons who have worked hard for their constituencies trying to cope with many issues that need to be resolved. You can’t expect a 100% solution to all the questions that everyone has asked. That would be an impossible task for anyone.

NHS

I’m all in favour of other organisations of holding back money they have raised through sponsorship for an NHS project. It seems to be a waste of effort for persons to do charity walks, only to find that hospitals are willing to sacrifice people’s lives by splitting hospital sections where it becomes a dangerous situation for the patient. A hospital built in a town is for the people who live in that area, they are not expected to travel 20 to 50 miles over roads that are in need of repair to another hospital where delay of their treatment could mean an early demise of that person.

DO WE NEED TO SPELL IT OUT TO THE AUTHORITIES OF ALL HOSPITALS THAT PLAYING GOD IS DANGEROUS?

DRIVERLESS CARS

It has been announced that DRIVERLESS CARS are to be introduced to this country in six months time. Judging by some drivers on the road today I thought it had already happened. The number of young people involved in sometimes fatal accidents it is a wonder how they ever passed their driving tests. Signalling when approaching a roundabout seems to be a troubling factor. Drivers tend to signal too early to turn into their choice of road and some don’t signal at all. Either of these two traits can cause accidents and of course there are other factors relating to driverless cars. For one important thing you have to have decent smooth roads, not lumpy, bumpy and the many holes we have in the UK. All County Councils will have to get their fingers out and their money boxes.
