Haywards Heath ‘IN BLOOM’ Launches its 2018 Art Project Theme  ‘In Flander’s Fields by John McCrae

The Haywards Heath IN BLOOM Committee are this year delighted to announce that the theme of their Art Project for 2018 is the moving poem ‘In Flanders Fields by John McCrae to help mark the centenary of the end of World War I.

Organisations including the Kangaroos, Age UK, Care Homes, Residential Groups and the town’s Memory Cafes are invited to take part in this annual art project using canvasses and sometimes materials provided by Haywards Heath Town Council.  This year’s entrants are asked to use the moving sentiment of Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae’s experiences from the early days of the second battle of Ypres which culminated in him writing the world famous poem ‘In Flanders Fieldss.

Cllr Sandy Ellis, Chairman of the Haywards Heath ‘IN BLOOM’ committee says

“The standard of art work we see every year as part of this project is simply amazing and this is a special year for us all marking not only the 100-year anniversary of the death of John McCrae but also the centenary of the end of World War I.

The Town Council will be honoured to display these completed pieces of art work at the Town’s Spring Festival as well as the Town Library and St Wilfried’s Church during the year as part of the civic services and events to be held during the year to honour the bravery and valour of the soldiers of the First World War.”
