Lash Extensions are a hugely popular beauty treatment, but they can easily go from heaven to hell without the right care – here’s how to look after and prolong your lash extensions for the perfect result!

For me, lash extensions are the best treatment ever! If I had to choose to have one beauty treatment for the rest of my life it would definitely be lashes over anything else. They are so easy to maintain making you feel confident 24/7, and of course, saving you time in the mornings applying mascara! We all would prefer that extra 10 minutes a day doing something else. You can have them all year round and they are particularly handy on holidays when you don’t want to have to wear make-up every day.

The downside is, there is a cost attached. Lash extensions aren’t cheap to have applied, even more so if they are applied by a fully trained, experienced lash artist. However, the benefits definitely outweigh the cost.

If you do have lash extensions currently or are thinking of having lash extensions, how should you look after them to make sure your getting your money’s worth?

Let me guide you through the aftercare and how to look after them correctly.

  1. Firstly, you need to brush them. Your lash technician should give you a mascara brush after your full set and every infill appointment. Every morning give them a little brush. This will keep them in place and remove any loose extensions that would have fallen out that day. Remember your natural lashes fall out daily which then means your extensions will do too, so don’t worry if a few come out a day, you won’t even notice where they are fallen out from!
  2. Stay away from oils. Oil will break down the glue used to apply the extensions which then means your extensions will fall out prematurely. Wash and cleanse your face as normal, just wash around your eyes. Any eye creams will be fine as long as they aren’t applied to your lash line.
  3. So then how do we make sure your eye make up is removed and your lashes stay clean? Lash shampoo! Yes lash shampoo is a real thing. Let’s just think, before you had lash extensions you would have washed your face every day, twice a day, including your eyes and lashes. Now you have lash extensions you don’t want to get them wet and you need to avoid touching them. Without a specific Lash Shampoo, all that dirt, pollution plus your natural oils build up on your lash extensions so you go back to the salon, the therapist will either clean them for you which will eat into your lash time, or they apply new extensions on-top of your dirty ones, which will not last, so you’re wasting your money! Or you will gain an infection over time and we don’t want that. Invest in a good lash shampoo at home and wash your lashes every other day or daily if you’re a makeup wearer.

How do I wash my lashes? Really easy!

  1. Pump the foam into your finger tips and massage gently on your lashes and in the roots.
  2. Use the cleaning brush to help get between all the lashes gently.
  3. Rinse off in the shower or with the cleaning brush with water.
  4. You need to make sure all the shampoo has been rinsed off.
  5. Pat the lashes dry with a tissue. Don’t rub just pat.
  6. Brush them through with your mascara brush then they will look as good as new.
