New Year, new eyelashes! But which treatment is best for me?

Going to the beauty salon and having a treatment done is now the norm. But a lot of us do get confused about what eye treatment is best. There is also nothing worse than going into a salon thinking you are receiving the right treatment for you but actually a different treatment would have suited you better. Consultation is key with this, a chance to sit down with your therapist and let them know you’re exceptions. Also for the therapist to tell you their professional views and recommendations. Hopefully your local salon offers that…. Well they should.

Lash Lift

Lash lift is the perfect solution for you if you prefer lower maintenance treatments. With this treatment you would only need to visit the salon every 6 weeks, which is fabulous if you are strapped for time.

With a Lash Lift, think of it as a perm for your lashes. Your natural lashes are relaxed and then lifted from the root to create a open, lifted look. You can also have a Tint done alongside the Lash Lift, leaving the salon with lifted, longer and darker lashes.

If you don’t tend to wear mascara, this treatment will be perfect for you and will save time in the morning getting ready! Which is what we all want right?

If you do wear mascara daily, you might find you don’t need to wear mascara anymore, or if you do only a quick sweep of it. If you do wear mascara still with a lash lift, that’s totally ok – it will just enhance the lift even more. Just remember to remove the mascara every evening before bed. I recommend KG Lash Shampoo. It is perfect for removing makeup, maintaining optimum hygiene whilst still being gentle around your eyes and on your lashes.

Within your consultation with the therapist, they will discuss with you the different rod/shield types to suit you. Generally there is small, medium and large. Each one will give a slightly different look but a lot of the choice also comes down to your natural lash length.

The treatment normally takes an hour and you will have your eyes closed the whole time. It is super relaxing, so don’t be surprised if you have a free lash nap too!

Eyelash Extensions

This is an extremely popular treatment but it does require maintenance. The full treatment time is around 60-120 minutes depending on the type you are having and you will be in the salon every 2-3 weeks to have your Infills done, which will take between 30-60 minutes. So you will be required to make time for these appointments but the time you save in the mornings is crazy! Definitely no mascara is needed, and you will find you will most likely wear less makeup as your lashes give you the added extra you need and make you feel more “done up”.

Lash extensions don’t need to be fake looking. They have evolved hugely in the last 10 years and can look really natural if you want that look but you can also have them looking like high-impact strip lashes. Having a consultation for lash extensions is really important as there is so many different options, styles and looks. You need to make sure you get what’s suited to you best. In our salons, Classic lashes and Russian Volume lashes are the most popular – Classic offering you a natural look and Russian Volume giving you a fuller, fluffier look.

To get the most out of your lash extensions I would recommend you again washing them daily with the KG Lash Shampoo. This will keep them clean, fluffy and help keep infections at bay. Brush them daily, try to be careful when sleeping…. No picking! And get that infill appointment booked in every 2 weeks. When you return for an infill appointment you want to make sure you have around 50% of lash extension left on. Then in your appointment the lash artist will infill the gaps and make them look brand new again.

For both lash lift and lash extensions you will need a patch test. I wouldn’t have a treatment without one as a reaction to the eye can be very dangerous and a lot of salon insurances won’t be valid. So please don’t try and get out of having this done, it takes two minutes to do and can protect you.

If you have any questions about these treatments I am more than happy to guide you on what’s best for you or recommend any local salons to you. Feel free to reach me on instagram at @kg_katiegodfrey
