Garden Centre Assistant Christopher (Nip) Wallis has asked the team at the Haskins Snowhill Garden Centre near East Grinstead to dedicate fundraising this year at the Halloween evening to the Sussex Cancer Centre at Royal Sussex County Hospital having just completed 7 weeks of radio therapy for prostate cancer. Nip, 72 from East Grinstead, took on an allotment for the first time this year and has succeeded in growing a massive wheelbarrow buckling pumpkin, which will be used for a Guess the Weight competition as part of the fun evening.
“I had the room so I decided to have a go at pumpkin growing for my grandson but he says its too big for him!” said Nip. “I hope that with the competition and the other activities including face painting, spooky storytelling, and a fancy dress competition, we can raise a good sum to support the excellent care and treatment offered by the team at the Sussex Cancer Centre.”
Last year the team at Haskins, who design and make all the costumes and props themselves, raised over £400 for Leukaemia/Lymphoma Research.
