School recruitment fair to visit Crawley

A school recruitment fair is coming to Crawley for the first time, following the success of its sister event in Fontwell last weekend.

A total of 273 people got the chance to meet employers and other organisations face-to-face at the school recruitment fair at Fontwell Park Racecourse on Saturday (3rd February).

The event saw people travel from across the county and beyond to get information and advice on how to start a career in a West Sussex school.

Organisers at West Sussex County Council are now preparing to host a second recruitment fair on Saturday 24 February from 10am to 2pm at Ifield Community College, in Crawley.

Richard Burrett, County Council Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, said: “We received really positive feedback from attendees at the latest recruitment fair at Fontwell, including how beneficial it was to talk with people face to face. They told us they received some great advice and were also able to speak to organisations that they were previously unaware of.

“Our effort to get people working in schools doesn’t stop there. The next event in Crawley will allow us to get the message about working in and with schools out to an even wider audience and hopefully encourage people to choose a career that they can enjoy for the rest of their working lives.”

The event is a chance for anyone interested in working with young people in the county to discover more about the wide variety of employed and voluntary roles available both in and working with schools. Local universities and colleges will also be on hand to give advice and guidance.

As well as teaching posts, roles in schools include; teaching assistant, working with children with special educational needs, bursar, apprentice, premises manager, technician, minibus driver, home to school escort, governing body clerk and governor.
