With more residents and visitors enjoying the seafront in Seaford local Councils are working together to tackle litter problems that are causing complaints and concern.
Lewes District Council is introducing an extra collection service every afternoon during the busy summer weekends to empty the litter bins that are well used by people enjoying the seafront. They are also going to carry out additional litter picking to help keep the area in pristine condition.
Seaford Town Council installed 17 larger litter bins last year in an effort designed to encourage people to dispose of their litter in a thoughtful way so that all can continue to enjoy the seafront area.
Councillor Carol Campbell of Seaford Town Council said: “Seaford Town Council is delighted that our concerns about litter on the seafront have been dealt with so swiftly by Lewes District Council, this is vitally important as we move forward with our development plan for the seafront to make it better for us all to use and enjoy.”
Councillor Paul Franklin, Lead Member for Waste & Recycling at Lewes District Council said “Lewes District Council is making a concerted effort to tackle the issue of litter on the seafront and over flowing litter bins. With the introduction of additional collection services until the end of September and increased litter picking we are confident that this extra service will help cope with the problem during the busy summer months. Seaford Town Council has been instrumental in highlighting the litter issue to us and by working together we are confident a workable solution has been found.”
