Summer’s the time for energy saving improvements

Councils in Sussex are working with low income, elderly and vulnerable households to make sure that their homes are warm and healthy in time for the winter.

Residents who own their own home, or rent it from a private landlord, and are on certain income-related benefits, could qualify for funding towards a new, efficient boiler and insulation – helping to reduce energy usage and save money before the nights start to draw in.

The scheme is run by Your Energy Sussex, a West Sussex-led partnership between Sussex Councils and Carillion. The funding, from the Government’s Home Heating Carbon Reduction Obligation (HHCRO) scheme has paid for more than 30 installations already – and more is available.

If you think you may qualify, you can talk to the local, accredited Your Energy Sussex installer, C Mitten Plumbing and Heating. Their team will carry out a free assessment to check the suitability of the home and heating system. They will also assess the level of funding available to each household.

Colin James, Head of Capital and Infrastructure for West Sussex County Council, said: “Your Energy Sussex is committed to helping residents and businesses to save energy, reduce their bills and cut the amount of carbon we all produce. With our partners, we share a commitment to supporting members of the community in most need, including the elderly, vulnerable and households facing fuel poverty. This is a time-limited offer, so don’t delay if you think that you or somebody that you know could qualify.”

Full details of the eligibility criteria are available here. This is a time-limited offer and householders are encouraged to act now if they think they could be eligible.
