The Race is ON! Mid Sussex Marathon Weekend Goes Virtual!

Mid Sussex Marathon Weekend 2020, scheduled to be staged 23rd-25th May 2020, was postponed on 24th March following advice of England Athletics that due to the Covid-19 pandemic all sanctioned events could not take place until 1st June 2020 at the earliest.

We would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding during this very difficult time. We have received many kind words and comments of support, which has reassured us that we have taken the right approach.

It is very important to us that we find a way of staging the event this year. A number of people have already entered this year and are returning runners as we have a very loyal following. Since the outbreak of Covid-19 there has been widespread cancellation and postponement of events, so we feel a duty to engage the running community providing an opportunity for runners to participate in an organised event and raise funds for charities. We had also made significant investment in the event prior to the postponement so as a not-for-profit entity it is important for the future of the event that we do generate some revenue this year.

After much consideration and consultation, we have decided that Mid Sussex Marathon Weekend 2020 will be cancelled, and a new MSMW 2020 Virtual Race held in its place! Providing an opportunity for everyone to participate in our unique event.

The event will be open from 23rd May to 1st July, with entries closing on 28th June. Once entered runners have 40 days to complete the challenge they choose.  When we have received recorded evidence of the distance and time completed you will be entered onto the results and leader board and sent a beautiful, bespoke, commemorative medal.

Runners can choose from the Family Fun Run, Junior Mile, a 5k, 10K, take on the Half-Marathon or the full Marathon. Walk, run, on a bike or in a wheelchair; we don’t mind how you do it, in fact the more creative the better! Walk a marathon in 40 days, complete 422 100metre sprints, hop for a Mile, or cycle a marathon in two hours, we’d love to see how creative you can be!

There’s no age limit and all are welcome to take part anywhere! All we ask is that you complete your challenge in accordance with the Government’s latest social distancing guidelines.
