Warm Weather Forces Cancellation of Ice Rink Launch

Tonight’s launch of the Tunbridge Wells open air ice rink, and the planned live internet streaming, has had to be cancelled because of the unusually warm and wet weather.

The operators, Tunbridge Wells Borough Council, are really disappointed about the cancellation as they were looking forward to launching this year’s rink, which is bigger than ever before, with a capacity for 250 skaters, and looks absolutely fantastic in it’s traditional home, the Calverley Grounds right in the centre of the town.

Unfortunately a combination of unseasonably warm weather, high winds which have resulted in friction (and consequently created more heat) and rain means that the ice is not safe for skating. Icescape, the rink operator, is making every effort to get the rink to a usable condition and it is still hoped that they will be able to open for public skating on Saturday 21st Novemeber at 11am, as advertised, but sadly, due to public demand for the skating sessions, they won’t be able to reschedule the launch event.

Updates about skating will be posted on the ice rink website, tunbridgewellsatchristmas.com, and at tunbridgewells.gov.uk.
