Celebrating Older Persons Day

An event will be taking place on the 4th of October at Busheyfields Western road BN27 3HF at 10-30am to 1pm called “Older Persons Day”. The government backed scheme is to celebrate older people for what they do now and have done in the past and what they still have to give for the future.

With preconceived ideas that older people just sit around with nothing to do or no activities participated in. The event would like to crush these outdated ideas, people are living longer these days , eat more healthy and therefore have more energy than some of the younger folk around who sit and play on the computer all day. The older generation in these schemes, work, or give up their free time to help at charity shops, go on day trips to Belgium, France,. Play bowls, attend local photography classes,  or go to college to learn new skills etc…

This event is being sponsored by the local community for all the Tombola and Raffle prizes plus all the food donated by Tesco.

Homegroup and Hanover sheltered housing schemes for the elderly are combining forces to ensure that the day is well attended. The managers Denise Wood  Billie-Jo Ball and Jeanette Friday told The Sussex Newspaper: “ We are having cream teas  Tombola, an huge Raffle, flower arrangements,  and Bon Marche will be selling items on the day so everyone should walk away with something great.

“The Mayor is coming to open the event as well – which we are all excited about – we have had lots of support from the local community and we thought it would be great to thank them all through the local paper and show that although there is a recession and money is tight through perseverance  and drumming up enthusiasm, you can do a local event for free and get the community in to enjoy. We only hope the weather is good as well.”
