A South Downs Leisure employee has jumped out of a plane to raise money for local charities, St Barnabas and Chestnut Tree House Appeal.
Linda Selling, who is a receptionist at Splashpoint Leisure Centre, took on the monumental task of jumping from a plane at 12’000 feet on Sunday 21s August, taking off from Headcorn in Kent. Now some might think this is a crazy feat in itself, however at nearly 60 years of age this is the 2nd time that Linda has done this, so is either a pro, or a glutton for punishment.
Both Linda and her friend Janet, who was jumping for the first time, were keen to get the jump underway, however the weather threatened to ruin their plans. Having arrived at the aerodrome at 8:30 in the morning, the jump was put off throughout the day and was almost cancelled until the weather cleared up enough for the jump to go ahead. They finally took off at around 4pm.
Linda was excited to jump, having been through the experience before, however Janet was understandably a little anxious as this was her first time. Janet jumped first, and thoroughly enjoyed the ride down, however Linda was able to do some air-acrobatics, as well as some line dancing in the air on the way down.
Having got back down to terra firma, Linda, who was obviously excited and feeling the adrenaline rush commented “That was a great experience, one I would definitely recommend!”
Having got back to her day job, Linda had some wise words for anyone that was considering going through the experience but was having doubts, by advising: “You’ve just got to get on and do it, you won’t be disappointed”
