Chocolate, The Rolling Stones and wartime Shanghai

A diverse range of events are being organised by the city’s library as part of the Festival of Chichester.

The Festival runs from 18 June – 17 July, and events include the chance to ‘visit’ wartime Shanghai, a talk on The Rolling Stones and their local links, and a chocolate tasting evening.

The celebrations begin with An Evening Visit to War-Time Shanghai with local author Keiko Itoh talking about her novel My Shanghai, 1942-1946, which provides a rare perspective on the Pacific War.

George Orwell is best known for his novels but he also wrote poetry. Dione Venables leads the talk George Orwell: What Poetry? which will include readings of his work and how the collection was brought together.

From Cocoa Bean to Chocolate Bar is an event to excite the tastebuds – there will be tastings, plenty of fun and an informative evening to be had by all.

Fans of The Rolling Stones will not want to miss Sussex, Drugs and Rock and Roll. Author Simon Wells will talk about ‘The Great Drugs Bust’ which features sex, drugs, rock and roll – and a huge slice of local history.

Spend an evening with best-selling Brighton based author Julia Crouch to hear about her latest novel The Long Fall, a psychological thriller spanning 30 years. Julia’s other books include Cuckoo, Every Vow You Break and Tarnished.

Popular local group Chichester Independent Authors (CHINDI) will share their experiences of Successful Self-Publishing at this interactive workshop.

The events culminate in an evening with best-selling and award-winning authors Francesca Kay and Louise Doughty talking about their latest novels, chaired by local author Isabel Ashdown.

Tickets cost £4 per person for all events, available from Chichester Library, Tower St, PO19 1QJ, call 01243 777351.
