In or Out?

Like the famous Hamlet quote of “to be, or not to be?” the question is more now in or out? Staying in, or conversley not, that is! For Coronavirus has struck, sending the world as we knew it into chaos and fear, as this silent but very deadly virus spreads across the whole planet.
Isolate, distancing, social avoidance are the new watch words, with the strongest order being to stay at home. This of course has caused new confrontations like the wounds and sores of Brexit, still not yet healed, just perhaps sidelined, as for sure it will surface again, especially as our economy is very much at risk.
So this new argument is because many people won’t conform to staying at home, and frolic outside, while others do stay at home. Much more obscene, is while these people go out and dramaticaly increase risks the amazing health staff of the NHS battle on the frontline. So stay at home or go out? Your choice?

From my 2nd book comes this first poem…..

Better or Worse

The years that pass will change us all
For many better ways, some worse.
Struggling through life’s many trials
We will be tested, chapter and verse.

People we meet in life may cheat
And not turn out as we perceived,
But if we challenge or call them out
They’ll protest, and be aggrieved.
For we’ve not measured up for them
All they needed to take from us,
Thus we must stand there as accused
Denied speech, or to make a fuss!

So the time that’s passing changes all
But if faltering we can be condemned.
Though our good points are overlooked
And our errors we did not amend.

Many disputes are caused by love
And disagreements as to who is best.
So friendships that stood many years
Will struggle to survive this test!

If someone once close can succeed
When your friend and mate just fails,
A jealousy and sourness may arise
So friendship poisoned, just derails.

Our money is a tricky source of change
When wasted, stolen, lost or gained.
For everyone could make their pile
And those who didn’t, say they refrained
To take the opportunities that they had
Because to achieve all is so simple,
But of course didn’t take their chance
So hate disfigures, like a rash or pimple.

Thus life will salute all those who stand
Unbeaten, without change, so sincere,
Through all ravages of life upon them.
But maybe not so good as they appear.
For little temptations may have wrought
Some small dents in their gold exterior!
And denied too vigorously if not true
Prove that they actually are inferior!

Yes all about our decisions and perhaps conscience, although maybe some don’t get troubled by theirs too much, so yeah do your own thing, or as you may say “what you like”! Naturally we had such people among us long before this curse struck, but it could all be a bit more serious now? Some more thoughts in this poem from my 5th book

Exposure

It takes a very brave person
To rise above the parapet alone,
And to show themselves completely
Whilst standing on their own.

Now of course they would expect
That others would support them too.
But sadly not quite the case
As some find it hard to do,
Something else for any others,
Or maybe it’s indifference
That causes them to duck out
All safe behind their fence.

Of course they watch keenly
To see what happens next,
With their well rehearsed excuse
Or some other lame pretext,
That will justify themselves
From any exposure to the fray.
As they really do believe it’s best
To run, and fight another day.

So what of our poor victim
Now standing open to it all?
Leading a flock who didn’t follow,
And maybe smile to see him fall.
For in some cases it would suit
The cowards to say, I told you so.
We were right to keep our cover
And thus not to have a go.

Which certainly would be safer
And not take any chance to gain
Successful wins in their life,
But all their fears remain.

Obviously the recent sunny weather has been a temptation to people to have a barbecue, go to the coast, or even beach in some cases, and in others near 300 mile round trip journeys. Not exactly staying in or at home, but sorry yes we forgot. You do as you like!

Sunny Deceit

The sun cascades in the window
Like some glowing form of deceit,
As most people cannot venture out
For a drink, or chat to folks they meet,
Just as we would be doing normally
With hugs, laughs and some jokes too,
As now we’re condemned to isolation
So there is nothing that we can do.

For a stark horror is now hiding
Behind that sunshine glowing there,
Which will claim thousands of lives
And strike without a slightest care,
Of any pain or anguished suffering
Left distraught behind its wakes.
Because this is a pandemic virus
We must defeat for all our sakes.

Now if that requires social isolation
From people we would usually hug,
And whilst not normal and upsetting
It may protect us from this killer thug.
Thus through our windows and doors
A bright luring sunshine streams in.
But we must steadfastly resist this
As if socialising was now a sin.

Therefore I will dutifully adhere
With government instructions today,
Although it goes against the grain
To just follow exactly what they say.
But the reality is a terrifying threat
To thousands of vulnerable lives,
So I will enjoy the rays from within
However sunny deceit strives.

Well that last poem is a bit of a first as comes from my soon to be published eighth book, but as written during this crisis, is pretty much on the button for topical and up to date thoughts in our vastly and quickly changed world.
Over to you then and how to deal with this Coronavirus as you go about your way in the new very many different circumstances. Thus you must make your choices and maybe not all as simple as staying in or going out? Don’t worry too much as hopefully it will end, and if we are lucky, not in the so far away future. Then there is that Brexit to consider…..
