Kingfisher Sailings Christmas Gift Survey

A recent survey by Kingfisher sailing reveals why we’ll never learn that when it comes to buying Christmas gifts how to buy a Christmas gift with a difference – the recipient won’t have to fake liking this!

When it comes to Christmas one of the biggest pressure points is the familiar dilemma of what to give loved ones. The millions of unwanted
items that clutter our homes suggest we have every reason to stress about the gift-giving process – it is not easy to get it right. A new
survey by holiday provider Kingfisher Sailing has revealed that we’re also unlikely to learn from our mistakes as most people fake a
‘pleased’ reaction. According to the results*, an overwhelming 89% of participants pretend to like unwanted Christmas gifts, with almost a
third (28%) of respondents admitting to taking these items back, however the chances are most of us will still be wasting quite a bit
of money again this year.

The online survey also gave participants the opportunity to provide examples of some of the worst Christmas presents received, and many were happy to elaborate on the detail; from a hole-punch, to a packet of hankies and an answering machine. The worst gifts are often given by close family members. The classic Christmas mistake, socks, also made a few appearances on the list. The most common answer was bath salts, ornaments and items that clearly highlighted a lack of thought.16% of respondents are generally left feeling unhappy with their gifts every Christmas.

So before hitting the shops in a state of panic, why not try a different approach? The survey revealed that half of participants(48%) would rather receive an ‘experience’ gift over an object. From travel to trying something new, there are hundreds of experiences to suit hard-to-buy-for family members.

One such experience could be the chance for loved ones to enjoy life on-board a beautiful yacht.
