Local author reveals her writing secrets

West Sussex based author Elaine Hankin will launch her new book and give a talk at Worthing Library on Saturday 4 July.

At this free event Elaine will discuss how she came to write her book Swans Sing Before They Die, followed by a reading. She will then sign copies of the book.

Swans Sing Before They Die is set in London and traces the life and loves of a woman from the 1920s to the millennium. Born into poverty during the 1920s, Jessica Brown has one thing in her favour: a beautiful singing voice. At the outbreak of World War II she leaves her Islington home and joins ENSA, travelling to the Middle East and Italy entertaining the troops. To achieve success and find happiness, Jessie must learn to overcome her demons.  But will she have the strength to do that?

Elaine currently lives between the South Downs and the sea, an ideal spot for taking leisurely walks, during which ideas for her novels take shape. She writes in two different genres: adventures set against the back-drop of wartime and contemporary stories.

She turned her hand to writing after spending several years working in Switzerland and Italy. Influenced by this period abroad, she integrated many of the experiences and characters she met into her novels.
