A Nest Of Vipers!

It was bad timing on my part to venture out in my car to buy the Saturday newspaper to meet a young driver who decided to tail gate me all the way down Central Avenue and as I indicated to park my car when I saw a space, he tried to park in the same place by following me. He was that close and when I gave no indication that I was going to move on, he had the audacity to circle round the island and ask me to wind my window down which I did and he waffled on about parking in the same space even though it was my intention to park there and any normal sensible person would have guessed that I pulled in to avoid his tail gating my car. He certainly was driving dangerously and without due attention to other road users. It was completely irresponsible of this driver to act so aggressively because he hadn’t successively managed to intimidate me enough to move my car so that he could park his car in the same spot. I kept repeating to him that he was driving too close to my car and had someone walked out in the road in front of me, we would have collided.

That is not the end of the story, a black four by four car followed closely to the idiot behind me stopped and looked at me probably with the same intention of harassment. I had done nothing wrong, but I suppose in the eyes of the young driver I had done so by being on the road driving my car when he was driving his car.

I kept stating he was too close and eventually he drove off back up the road which was curious for a start, because if he was going to the shops as I was, he was going the wrong way. It was as if he intended to be offensive and did this kind of aggressive driving all the time whenever the opportunity presented itself on an older person driving on their own. I am just waiting for the follow-up to happen.

This happened on Saturday 31st about 9:30am. Both drivers must live on the Green Street Farm Estate. Whether they are partners in this sort of caper is to be investigated.

The powers that be are always singling out older people to re-take their driving test, but it is my opinion that young drivers of this calibre are showing off and trying to browbeat honest drivers in thinking they are in the wrong. They should face heavy fines and be immediately disqualified from driving for two years or more.

Anyone for Tennis?

If there were ever an incentive for ESCC to get their fingers out and do something about the disgusting state of the roads in Eastbourne. Yes! I know that ESCC pleads that they haven’t the funds, but why haven’t they got the money to make Eastbourne roads safe? I particularly ask because they seem to have had enough money to change the lighting system and in some cases erecting new posts, which to my way of thinking was not necessary and by doing so has added a new danger to Eastbourne residents.

Eastbourne has been host to one of the most prestigious events of the year and to the tennis fraternity all due respect has been lavished on their comfort while staying for this tournament, while the people of Eastbourne have had to suffer the appalling road conditions.

Local problems are in Victoria Drive near the zebra crossing opposite the Co-op stores in Green Street, the beginning of Paradise Drive leading to the Golf Club, the top end of Carlisle Road where there is a very deep hole and quite difficult to avoid as it is opposite a road island and a bus must find it virtually impossible to miss it and thereby jolting the passengers. There is another very deep hole appearing in Lushington Road as you come off the one way system. It is no good ESCC marking the areas that need urgent attention with white paint, drivers can’t see exactly where these holes are in the dark and some of these markings have been painted on the roads for almost a YEAR and what with the changed lighting system they have installed in Eastbourne it has made Eastbourne a very unsafe place to be out at night especially when cyclists decide to ride their bikes with no lights and dark clothing on.

Parking has become much more difficult in Eastbourne because ESCC have sneakily placed Coach and Bus Parking areas around the town. It seems that Tourism has been forced to take a back seat in Eastbourne, unless you come by coach, but for the individual who likes to drive his or her car to a seaside resort, it is best to choose a resort that has decent parking facilities. £2 or £3 for two hours parking is just ludicrous. ESCC must have CASH TILLS for eyes and adept to making a quick buck and to hell with the consequences.

I suffer from Multiple Sclerosis and I am damned if I am going to pay ESCC money to park while having treatment that costs me £35. It is just sheer blackmail on their part. I would rather walk which can be difficult at times.

No mention by ESCC when they slapped a disc, (smaller than a CD disc) high on a lamp post, supposedly informing car drivers they were entering a 20 mph zone. Why couldn’t the disc have been the same size as a 30mph sign and at a level that motorists could see? Every possible ploy has been made by ESCC to catch the motorist out so that they can penalise them.

I suggest that ESCC should tend to their own problems first by making the roads safer by filling up all the holes with the 1.2 BILLION pounds that the GOVERNMENT are going to inject according to a very reliable source!
