One million – that’s the significant milestone figure of personal protective equipment (PPE) delivered to those who need it most across West Sussex by county council teams.
Officers from West Sussex County Council and West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service have delivered the amount between March and the start of August.
A WSCC ‘PPE cell’ was brought together at the start of the COVID-19 outbreak to process requests and deliveries to support external health and social care providers across West Sussex, as well as WSCC frontline services in the provision of PPE.
The team has also been serving as a central point of liaison with the Sussex Resilience Forum which organises the supply of national emergency stock, supplied by Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG).
Paul Marshall, the Leader of West Sussex County Council, said: “While these past few months have been an incredibly testing time for many communities across our county, you never have to look very far to find some incredible stories of success. Stories that show how people have pulled together in these extremely difficult times to make the impossible possible.
“The PPE cell team have been working really hard to ensure that frontline staff working to support our residents receive the PPE they need to carry out their work in a safe manner. One million is a milestone figure for them and has been a real team effort.”
