Romance. Part two: Connection

imageso82rqn2u

In my October column I introduced the topic of romance, and said that I would spread it into three parts and publish them across a few months, but not consecutively. Starting in October with “Attraction” I then skipped November, but thought that as December is invariably cold and dark, even though Christmas is coming, (as the hotels, shops and advertising media have been reminding us for some time), I am now presenting romance “connection” to warm us all up and spread the love.

So we move on to the “connection” of romance after you have attracted or been attracted by the object of your hopes and desire. Oh happy, sunny, skipping days when the world is ultra wonderful with singing birds, music and beautiful views and sunsets. I don’t think that I can do anything better for this than to launch into my first poem of this article and extremely aptly titled “Arrival of Love” and in my 2nd published book.

Arrival of Love

When love arrives the first time

You will never be quite the same,

Despite wise words of people older

Your heart is hobbled, you are lame.

For you will think you know it all

With the fluttering thrill of love,

Turning grey into a blinding light

As if sent down by heaven above.

You no longer walk about, but fly

Fuelled by compliments that flowed,

From your lover, this faultless one

Who all their love on you bestowed.

So your soaring heart glows bright,

Within your very soul and breast.

Marring sight and convincing you

That you’ll pass your every test.

Your head will try hard to steer

A safe course of sense and welfare,

But your heart will not be cooled

From loves bright, saintly glare.

Dreams of wonder and dancing joy

Will swell into the heart and soul,

At the very sight of the one you love

Who makes the bells of Utopia toll.

For they can never do any wrong

And will love you all your years,

With their body, heart and kisses

And be your armour against all fears.

For you will think you know it all

With the fluttering thrill of love,

And the finding of your soul mate

Whose body fits you like a glove.

So walk in wonder, sun and light

Alongside your angel, who has fed

Your very breath, thought and being

That your heart rules, not your head!

So love has arrived and connected for you with all the vibrant excitement and hopes for you and your beloved. It brings about feelings of confidence, aspirations and sometimes alarmingly, infallibility, which should be tempered in case it gets out of control. It probably will do, but lets not get ahead of ourselves and enjoy the special moments and worship that are felt about your beloved, with of course those soul moving and tingling sensations felt about ourselves.

As a now quite prolific poem writing observer of the world, its inhabitants and their behaviours, evidenced in my four published poetry books, (plus having written about 240 poems in under three years) I find it quite easy to express my views and thoughts in this manner. Perhaps to confirm these thoughts I present another poem, this time from my 3rd book, that feedback to me says is very popular as a romantic offering, so with a very appropriate title please enjoy “Feeling Special”.

Feeling Special

When we’re together I am somewhere

But lost and nowhere when I’m alone,

For with you I can skip and cartwheel

Though if apart my heart’s a stone!

So secretly I’ll be your personal ghost

All around, watching with my stare,

I am the out breath, when in you breathe

And I’m the wind that blows your hair.

Thus note the trembling at your sleeve

And feel the itch you cannot scratch,

Because I’m the warm light that shines

Like darkness lit by a match!

When we’re together I am somewhere

But lost and nowhere when I’m alone,

For with you I can skip and cartwheel

Though if apart my heart’s a stone!

Should you feel sensation at your blouse

Or some finite movement at your skirt,

And heartbeats move to unfelt rhythm

It’s just me protecting you from hurt.

Be not afraid when you see a shadow

Or feel a touch, moth like at the ear,

It’s just my presence come to love you

And ensure safe passages you steer!

So have no fear of the world around you

Even lightning strikes from above,

For you’re safe within an armour

Fashioned by my spirits love.

Yes love does make us feel special with an inner glow and magical sensations so as nature would have it, we begin to make plans to “nest build”and be together more. This often involves sacrifices to this great love by both parties, but more than willingly done with barely a hesitant thought. All the time though there seem to be many amazing rewards for our love with fluttering hearts, music filled moments and a world beaming at us as we walk about in our majesty and wonder. All the time you have that fantastic confirmation that you have somebody who loves you and will climb mountains for you, defend you even if you’re wrong and generally support you and never fail to willing grant the slightest wish you want or make. Ok a bit strong and mawkish but it IS a romance article and I’m playing my “poetic licence” alongside a violin of Cupid!

That all stated then I bring my poetic proof again in another poem from my second book and this poem is entitled Rock Star.

Rock Star

At times life seems a struggle

You just don’t know what to do,

But you will always find a way

When someone really loves you.

They will help to pick you up

And send you back on your way,

So even if you stumble more

You will feel their love each day.

The best way to deal with strife

Is to take the worry and share,

As any help and encouragement

Will remind you that they care.

A simple man can be like a king

And lifted on towards his glory.

Knowing that he has an ally who,

Will support and tell his story.

This ally will help to pick you up

And send you back on your way,

So even if you stumble more

You will feel their love each day.

When you’ve won and are the star

And all the accolades you pack,

You will look round for your “rock”

But they’ve gone three paces back.

Thus leaving the spotlight all on you

As by the admirer’s you are trailed,

You will know deep in your heart

Without your rock you’d have failed!

Now that is a lovely recognition of loves devotion of one to another, enjoying the success of your love whilst standing in the shadows as they bask in triumph. Oh happy days and long may they last , but will they? Well as I said at the start of the column it is December and Christmas is coming so we will be positive and happy then, allowing this connected love to remain in romantic mode.
