Isn’t it wonderful when you get a supercharged sports car revving up an engine behind you and wanting to pass even though it is only a thirty mile an hour limit and also the room to manoeuvre is impossible? Mostly youngish persons drive these cars, showing off their prowess at the steering wheel. It doesn’t give much hope for the person who keeps to the letter of the law when one or two fingers of these so called knights (or is it road hogs) of the road signal in your direction that you are not wanted on this road and should make way for them to pass.
I know being young (as I was some distance ago) and of course that type of car was not readily available at that time of my life and not being born with a silver spoon in my mouth I had to wait my turn for something I could afford to pay. I am still alive so that must mean something that when I could afford to pay for a fast car I didn’t show off to the frilly thing that sat beside me and end up dead.
Remember there are other persons on the road and just because you drive a four by four or a sports vehicle it’s not a passport to drive like a lunatic! I know this advice will fall on deaf ears to some of you who think you know better, but just in case you are sensible please heed the Gypsy’s Warning.
While we are on this theme, County Councils have tunnel vision when it comes to painting the necessary lines on the road to signify where vehicles should safely be. It is called White Paint and needs to be applied at junctions and at the end of some roads that merge with major roads so the driver knows he has to stop until it is safe to proceed. It also needs to be applied to the edge of the pavement or grass verge where street lighting is not there. It seems that YELLOW PAINT is the County Councils colour because they can extend the NO PARKING areas making shopping an impossible task.
I haven’t been into Eastbourne Town Centre for two months and quite frankly I don’t miss it. The County Council have driven away about 60% of shoppers because of the ridiculous parking charges. You either come by train or bus and gone are the days of individuals coming on holiday, unless of course the hotel you are going to stay at has its own parking facilities.
All County Councils state that charging persons for parking is one way of them getting extra money for their funds, but when it comes to filling in pot holes and making the roads safer to drive on they all plead poverty and search round to make other essential cuts that include CARE HOMES.
What is the world coming to – all those persons who gave their lives in all the wars that have gone on since to make our lives who are still here better – nothing is better, we are all still up the creek without a paddle!
