Valentine’s Day

So Valentine’s Day is upon us! Cue sparling eyes, groans or indifference! Also maybe a pursuance of a hoped for lady or gent conquest, an overdue amorous evening or perhaps just a gift?
Yes February 14th is the day, and also sometimes called Saint Valentine’s Day, originating from a feast day and is recognised as a notable celebration of romance and love in cultural, religious OR, wait for it, YES commercial celebration! The latter evidenced by grossly inflated prices of flowers, chocolates and various “loving” gifts etc at this time. Yes money it seems, and not love makes the world go round?
Possibly by now you may have determined that I’m not a fan, but not just Valentine’s Day but any “prompted” day for us “to be nice”, with others such as Christmas, Mothers Day etc. All nice of course but just why do we need to be reminded to be pleasant or remember people when we can actually do it every day of the year? For those (very small minority?) who don’t agree, give it a try!
Well actually romance is among the four themed (the 3 others are humour, reflection & tragedy) sections that are in all of my seven published books, see botom of page for details, so to get the romance going here is an aptly title poem….

Arrival of Love

When love arrives the first time
You will never be quite the same,
Despite wise words of people older
Your heart is hobbled, you are lame.

For you will think you know it all
With the fluttering thrill of love,
Turning grey into a blinding light
As if sent down by heaven above.

You no longer walk about, but fly
Fuelled by compliments that flowed,
From your lover, this faultless one
Who all their love on you bestowed.

So your soaring heart glows bright,
Within your very soul and breast.
Marring sight and convincing you
That you’ll pass your every test.

Your head will try hard to steer
A safe course of sense and welfare,
But your heart will not be cooled
From loves bright, saintly glare.

Dreams of wonder and dancing joy
Will swell into the heart and soul,
At the very sight of the one you love
Who makes the bells of Utopia toll.
For they can never do any wrong
And will love you all your years,
With their body, heart and kisses
And be your armour against all fears.

For you will think you know it all
With the fluttering thrill of love,
And the finding of your soul mate
Whose body fits you like a glove.

So walk in wonder, sun and light
Alongside your angel, who has fed
Your very breath, thought and being
That your heart rules, not your head!

Arrival of love then, and to celebrate this I will post other poems rather than too much text! This next poem I think is true for most of us, but what do you think?

See Saw of the Heart

What makes love affect your heart?
And gets right to the soul,
Putting a smile upon your face
As if you’d scored the greatest goal.

Whether young or old we feel it
This pounding in our veins,
At the sight or thought of love
That’s unbridled without reins.
So we soar up to the moon
Or perhaps journey to the stars,
With our stomach’s all a flutter
As if returned from Mars.

Oh, of course it can fall apart
And cause hurt that cuts us deep,
But when we’ve cried and got up
We start again to look and peep,
For another love or partner
To get us back on song.
But of course there is a fear
That again it could all go wrong!

Thus round and round in circles
Our spiral of love and tears,
Causing the odd heartache,
But more joy across the years.
*

So if love goes wrong for us all, and it is pretty common it seems, we get back up and start again. Some “limping”, some bitter, hurt, vengeful or just desperate? Not what good old St Valentine had in mind, but hey it’s a tough road man!
Obviously while I write this I am full of confidence that you will all be chomping on those expensive choccies, home wall to wall with flowers, mostly red roses of course, and swigging Champagne on Friday 14th. You’re not so certain? Oh surely you will, but here is a little help from me you might use, has worked for me, but maybe the “way I tell them” to quote an old comedian.

Feeling Special

When we’re together I am somewhere
But lost and nowhere when I’m alone,
For with you I can skip and cartwheel
Though if apart my heart’s a stone!

So secretly I’ll be your personal ghost
All around, watching with my stare,
I am the out breath, when in you breathe
And I’m the wind that blows your hair.
Thus note the trembling at your sleeve
And feel the itch you cannot scratch,
Because I’m the warm light that shines
Like darkness lit by a match!

When we’re together I am somewhere
But lost and nowhere when I’m alone,
For with you I can skip and cartwheel
Though if apart my heart’s a stone!

Should you feel sensation at your blouse
Or some finite movement at your skirt,
And heartbeats move to unfelt rhythm
It’s just me protecting you from hurt.
Be not afraid when you see a shadow
Or feel a touch, moth like at the ear,
It’s just my presence come to love you
And ensure safe passages you steer!

So have no fear of the world around you
Even lightning strikes from above,
For you’re safe within an armour
Fashioned by my spirits love.

Any success with that poem and I would really like to know, but any unwanted bumps and additions come November time, please keep to your self as I have a “get out” clause!
Well I have “kicked about” good old St Valentine and his day enough, so it is over to you wonderful readers to “do your thing, play up to that special person for once, have an argument cease fire with your soul mate” or just genuinely get on with it all! Or not…….
However no matter how this decreed and demonstrative period goes I really hope it can all end up nice and like my final poem for you?

Cut Loose

It may take time before you feel
The endings of your strife
And trembling release of pent up needs,
Freeing frustrations from your life.

So gasping from all the excitement
Brand new excursions can bring,
You will lay down breathless
Whilst heartbeat joys still sing,
Of skin touches, that made you gasp
And brought sleeping nerves alive.
Ensuring that your desired vibes
Would all very soon arrive.

But why were you so lost in sleep
That you took so long to wake?
Perhaps you were just not aware
Of sacrifices you must make.
For nothing comes from nothing
Unless you determine now to try,
To let all those trapped emotions go
Released with ecstatic sigh.

So relax and welcome sensations
Exploding in body and mind,
That maybe never reached the heights
Of these vibrant present kind,
That overcame the long journey
To climb to the very top.
And knowing that if you allow,
They may never, ever stop!
