As a business owner, I’ve had to overcome many obstacles on my journey to achieving my goals. My teenage years were hard for me, I was bullied dreadfully, and became very insecure at a young age. it was everything you would never want to happen to you. I had to move schools and eventually drop out of secondary school at only 13 years old. The fact I was away from school made me feel relieved but anxious at the same time as I had no plans for the future.
While I was shopping in Oxford Street one day, I was approached by a modelling agent who offered me a photo shoot. As soon as I got home, I immediately called to book and from thereI started to build my modelling portfolio, which soon started a career. Modelling became a passion for me, the confidence that was taken from me was starting to build up again. I was a recluse in my own home, the fear of being laughed at was still in my mind but modelling gave me the motivation to get out of the house and experience the world.
Fast forward a few years, I launched my first business KG Model Management. A business that started off in my parent’s office and developed massively in only a year, which encouraged me to move into a bricks and mortar business. I started to increase the range of services at KG model management which including tanning. This was such a hit and as the demand for more beauty treatments grew, I decided to turn the business into a full beauty salon. That’s when KG Salon was born.
KG Salon went on to win many awards, which helped the brand to grow and garner more recognition from the public. We launched our training academies which are now nationwide to help and encourage people from all over the UK to be a part of the beauty industry.
Why did I do this? I always had a hatred towards classroom education because of my previous experiences with school. I wanted to create courses to help others get a qualification, helping them to be more employable or having that extra qualification which might support them whilst starting their own business without going to college. These courses are suitable for anyone who dislikes classroom learning, parents who want to work around children, teens who don’t want to go to college etc. Making the courses flexible was crucial as this can give people opportunities they may never have been offered before.
You can do this also, find your passion and see which intense, short courses are out there. Accountancy, beauty, makeup, teacher training – there are so many options. Anything is possible when you put enough work and motivation into it.
I always say, look where you wish to be in five years. If you were to look back in five years’ time, what would that look like? Then work backwards to achieve those goals.
Feel free to contact us for any training opportunities.
