3 tips for healthy travel snacks

Hello all, how are you? What has the month been brewing up for you?

I am currently sitting in a beautiful cafe on the beach in Southern Spain, sipping my earl grey tea, soaking up the Summer sun and preparing for my return to the UK.

The last month has been rather busy for me as I have been completing my first ever book. It has been a mixture of joy, exhilaration, tears and celebration. Each stage of the writing journey has been beautiful and something I wanted to nourish in my own time.

Pushing just isn’t my style anymore.

I am now in the pre-sale stage. But before I go there. Back into the “doing” phase. I really appreciate the importance of rest and allowing the work I have created to settle and take on a form of her own.

Feet up. In my hammock. Swinging…This got me thinking about the importance of resting.

This will be something I talk about frequently here in this column as it is something which a lot of us find difficult to do. But as I am sitting surrounded right now by holidaymakers taking their annual rest I am feeling a surge of love and admiration for the natural calming environment of the beach.

As a self-employed Soulpreneur one of the reasons I left my 9-9 job (seriously who works 9-5 these days!) was so I could become a writer and write/work from anywhere. I am feeling truly blessed right now and really wanted to share this scene with you to help calm your body for a while and help you to recognise the value in doing and resting.

So take 5 more minutes to imagine you are on your favourite beach, the wind blowing in your hair, the waves gently lapping, as you lay on that sun lounger feeling calm and content and look out to a beautiful vast landscape, 50 shades of blue watching the sea and the sky meet.

As you lie there in this blissful state. I thought it would be fun to share 3 of my favourite tips for healthy travel snacks. For if like me you are setting off on an adventure then a little pre-preparation goes a long way.

  1. Taking a flight – Energy Balls – A great source of protein and carbs. Easy to pack and perfect to dull that niggling hunger pain. I love to prepare my own so there is no added sugar but there are companies out there that provide good products to make it easier. Note that Brazil and macadamia nuts are very low in carbs so really great for filling you up with extra protein and fats. And adding a super powder like cocoa or maca adds to the taste and ups your vitamin take for the days when you are lacking in other healthier options.
  2. Road Trip – Prepare small containers of nuts, olives, cheese, seeds, chocolate for each day. This is like your own nut bar but without the added sugar. Plus you can eat each item together or separately and mindfully eat your snack to help your body fuel itself for longer. Taking this time to prepare is so worth it. As each day you get to take your new snack box out and enjoy it as you drive along. You never have to fill up on garage snacks again!
  3. Any trip – For many people travelling can play havoc with their digestive system. So buy yourself some chia seeds – these little seeds are packed with omega 3’s and are great for digestive health. Pop a teaspoon each morning in your water (remember to buy yourself a disposable water bottle BPA free preferably) and pop them in with some water and hey presto – keeping you moving on the move!
