As we come to the end of what has been a turbulent year, Leigh Day would like to take the opportunity to thank all the supermarket workers who have helped us to maintain some normality in these uncertain times.
In 2020 the general public has come to appreciate the efforts of supermarket staff who have been working on the frontline. Finally, they are being recognised as key workers.
Shop workers have always had a demanding job, but in the current climate it’s not only physically challenging but also mentally and emotionally exhausting.
Each day they are putting themselves at an increased risk to keep everyone else’s fridges and cupboards stocked.
They have worked relentlessly to make sure the general public can continue to access essential goods, kept calm when customers were stockpiling and dealt with the extra stress that came with limits on products and empty shelves.
For this, and for all the other challenges they have faced, we are extremely grateful.
Leigh Day is currently acting for more than 45,000 supermarket workers in their equal pay battle. We promise to continue fighting for this in 2021, and for as long as it takes to ensure shop workers are paid fairly.
We’re hopeful that 2021 will bring about significant positive legal judgements bringing shop workers closer than ever to equal pay.
It shouldn’t have taken a pandemic for Britain to recognise the value of supermarket workers, but now that attitudes have improved, it’s time their pay does too.
